Another successful year has afforded the opportunity for Abaco Pathfinders to continue on course and offer many valuable scholarships to the local Abaco youth.

Proud families and friends gathered to celebrate and honour Abaco Pathfinders’ new scholarship recipients July 2. The event was again hosted by the Abaco Beach Resort and attended by Pathfinder board member, Mr. Peter Sweeting, and his wife. Following opening remarks by Kathy Weldon and Michael Albury, the incoming chairman, Pathfinders’ new administrator, Cathy Meyers, presented the students with certificates of scholarship achievement.  Each told the audience of their academic and professional plans.

Abaco Pathfinders’ Scholarship Foundation has had a successful fund raising year, despite the local economic hardships created by two hurricanes.  This has been due to the generosity of local residents and businessmen and visitors to our islands.  Our fund raising efforts again culminated this year with a very successful and popular silent and live auction event held at the Abaco Beach Resort March 19.  We are pleased that these efforts will allow us to continue the partial support of our previous recipients and to award ten new partial scholarships for this, our 5th, year.  After the application review process and the personal interviews, Pathfinders’ scholarship committee made the following selections:

Because of the overwhelming success of its recent fund raising auction and the wonderful generosity of a number of individuals and businesses, Abaco Pathfinders' Scholarship Foundation is able to award 13 partial scholarships this year instead of its usual ten. This is fortunate because the number of applicants was almost double those of previous years. The selection of this year's students was very difficult because of the large number of outstanding applicants.
