How did it all begin?

Abaco Pathfinders was conceived and developed by a number of residents and businessmen of Hope Town. We are a public charitable organization with a IRS501(c)(3) designation with a goal to provide funds to enable deserving students from the Abaco islands to continue their education after high school. For some, this may be financial help needed to go to college. However, recognizing the need for skilled workers in the islands, we hope to also give economic assistance to those who wish to attend vocational schools, as well.

How are you able to get your funding?

Through generous donations and through our annual Auction.

What happens after I submit my application?
  • The selection committee selects 15 - 20 students that they would like to know a little better
  • Persons not selected will be notified by email or telephone
  • These students are invited to come in for an interview with the committee (usually a Saturday)
  • The interviewees are notified as to whether they have been given a scholarship and the amount

How many students are normally given scholarships per year?

It is usually 10 per year, but we have given to more students, based on the number of excellent applicants.

How much money does Pathfinders give for its scholarship?

The amount given to each student is decided by the Selection Committee. It ranges from $2000 - $2500 per term and applies to one school year. Awardees must reapply each year for the scholarship. Our goal is provide scholarship monies for four (4) years.

Will the money be sent to me?

Your scholarship monies are sent directly to your school on your behalf. The monies are designated for tuition, fees and books.
