2005 Awardees

Abaco Pathfinders’ Scholarship Foundation has had a successful fund raising year, despite the local economic hardships created by two hurricanes.  This has been due to the generosity of local residents and businessmen and visitors to our islands.  Our fund raising efforts again culminated this year with a very successful and popular silent and live auction event held at the Abaco Beach Resort March 19.  We are pleased that these efforts will allow us to continue the partial support of our previous recipients and to award ten new partial scholarships for this, our 5th, year.  After the application review process and the personal interviews, Pathfinders’ scholarship committee made the following selections:

Delvano McIntosh will graduate from Sherlin C. Bootle High School this year.  He is the son of Dwight McIntosh and Lucinda Forbes of Fox Town. Delvano will attend either The College of the Bahamas or Bahamas Baptist College.  He hopes to become a teacher and will major in history and computer systems.

Felicity Simms, the daughter of Jonathan and Agatha Simms of Murphy Town, will be graduating from Agape Christian School this year where she received one of the “Outstanding Students in Bahamian Schools Award”.  Felicity plans to attend The College of the Bahamas and hopes to become a mathematics teacher.

Jamie Benjamin is a graduate of Forest Heights Academy.  She is currently majoring in elementary education at Florida Southern College.  Jamie is the daughter of Derek and Terry Benjamin of Marsh Harbour.

Miquell Miller of Green Turtle (a 2004-2005 scholarship winner who enjoys having her picture taken ;-)  Miss Miller is a student at Dillard University in New Orleans and plans to eventually go into medicine. Miss Miller is the daughter of Patricia McIntosh.

Joan Pinder will graduate this year from Sherlin C. Bootle High School where she is Head Girl and was awarded one of the “Outstanding Students in Bahamian Schools Award”. She plans to attend The College of the Bahamas and intends to study culinary arts.  She is the daughter of Euturpy McIntosh of Treasure Cay and Green Turtle.

Malisa Singh is completing her first semester at York College in New York.  She is a graduate of Abaco Central High School and the daughter of Partap and Gaulty Singh of Marsh Harbour.  Malisa’s field of study is accounting and she hopes to become a certified public accountant.

Raenell Lowe will be graduating from Forest Heights Academy this year, where she won an “Outstanding Students in Bahamian High School 4.0 Academic Award”. She is the daughter of Raymond and Bessie Lowe of Green Turtle.  She will be attending Palm Beach Atlantic University and will be pursuing a BSN in nursing.

Veronica Nairn, the daughter of Veronica Nairn of Marsh Harbour, is currently majoring in psychology at Florida Memorial College.  She formerly attended Abaco Central High School where she graduated in 2002.

Christina Basden, daughter of Keith and Deborah Basden of Dundas Town, is a graduate of Abaco Central High School and is currently attending The College of the Bahamas where she is majoring in biology and chemistry.  Christina plans to enter medical school following her graduation from COB.

Samantha Gaitor, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Harold Gaitor of Moore’s Island, is a 1998 graduate of Abaco Central High School.  She has been attending Miami Dade Community College where she will graduate with an AA in business administration.  She will then enter the college’s dental hygiene program in August.

Terrinique Pennerman is attending Francis Marion University where she is preparing to become a certified financial analyst.  She previously attended The College of the Bahamas and Abaco Central High School. She is the daughter of the late Margaret Meeres of Dundas Town.

Raymonde Saintil is the daughter of Raymond and Elisemane Saintil of Hope Town.  She attended Hesston College in Kansas and has transferred to Eastern Mennonite University in Virginia to prepare for a career in nursing.  Raymonde is a 2000 graduate of Abaco Central High School.

Jesse Tador is a 2001 graduate of Abaco Central High School and attended Florida Memorial College. Seeing the growth in businesses in the Abacos, he intends to complete a degree in accounting. He is the son of Daniel and LouLouse Tador of Marsh Harbour.

These students were selected on the basis of academic preparedness, motivation , realistic goals and financial need.  They join the other 45 students to whom Abaco Pathfinders has provided aid in achieving their educational goals.
