2002 Awardees
Abaco Pathfinders' Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce its scholarship recipients for this, the foundation's second year. We are pleased that we are now reaching students beyond the Marsh Harbour and Hope Town areas. We are able to help support these students, as well as continuing the support of last years' recipients, because of the many benefactors who see these islands' future in the education its students.
Benita Altidor is a 1999 graduate of Abaco Central High School. Since graduation, she has been working at Scotia Bank in Marsh Harbour, saving her money to further her education. She will be attending Dade Community College in Florida, where she has family. She will be studying nursing. Louise Ashail is a 2001 graduate of Abaco Central High School from Hope Town. She has been working as a waitress and babysitting and has saved money towards her education at Brevard Community College. She has been offered room and board by a family who regularly visits the islands and came to know Louise. She hopes to become a LVN. Samantha Gaitor, of Moore's Island, is a 1998 graduate of Abaco Central High School and of Bahamas Technical Institute in 1999, has been working for Agape Family Dental Centre in Marsh Harbour since 2000. There she was trained in many dental procedures by Dr. Bonamy and now wants to become a certified dental hygienist. At present, there are none in Abaco Vashti Lachhman is a 1999 graduate of SC Bootle High School in Coppers Town and is currently attending Hunter College in New York where she is a junior . She is maintaining a 3.6 GPA in her fields of psychology and biology. She plans to go on to medical school. Erika Lowe, of Green Turtle Cay, will be a 2002 graduate of Forest Heights Academy in Marsh Harbour. She has already been accepted at Florida Southern College where she plans to study psychology and education. Brock Pinder will graduate from Forest Heights Academy this year. He plans to go into primary education and will begin his schooling at Palm Beach Community College in Florida. Theresa Pinder will be a 2002 graduate of Forest Heights Academy, where she attended on a full scholarship. She plans to go to Rutgers University to study journalism and languages. She hopes to go into publishing one day. Marsha Sands, of Man-O-War Cay, will graduate from Forest Heights Academy this year. She will prepare for a career in secondary education while attending Palm Beach Atlantic College in Florida. Kenneth Strachan graduated from SC Bootle High School in 1998 and then attended the College of the Bahamas until 2000. He has since been attending McGill University in Canada where he is majoring in biology in preparation for entering medical school. Priscilla Weatherford is a 2001 graduate of Forest Heights Academy. She plans to attend Florida Pensacola Christian College where she will study commercial writing and computer science.
